Our close connections to those involved in Franco-German cooperation enable us to pick up and focus on topical issues, feeding back the results of discussion in to public dialogue. In this context, we also increasingly take a cross-sectoral approach to social issues. Alongside the continuous work on key social and cultural topics, the Institute has four main areas of activity

Economic policy

Together with globalisation, the realisation of the European Economic and Monetary Union has fundamentally changed the conditions for national economic policy

Social Policy

Globalisation and the resulting increase in global competition have led to considerable changes in the labour market and present the traditional welfare state with huge challenges

European Policy

The process of European integration is of vital importance to all areas of national policy

For some years now, the dfi has expanded its traditional emphasis on social sciences and augmented it with the field of intercultural communication
